Having reached 0.2 stage with Regular & Bold, some experiments have been launched creating and testing further weights for Oxygen Font. These will form the basis for a wider Oxygen family.
The second milestone release of Oxygen Regular, Bold, and Monospace is available from here. Italics and more weights due for upcoming 0.3 release.
These screenshots (click to view Picasa web album) are the result of testing the latest 0.8 release of ttfautohint with Open Sans Regular, Light and Extra Bold weights.
There are still some rendering issues, for example compare the screenshots of small pt sizes at bolder weights, but the gap is gradually closing.

This work-in-progress is ‘Peel’, a Gill Sans-esque webfont, based on early specimens of the standard Gill Sans and then derivating into forms of it’s own. Peel is an experiment in creating a webfont as a ‘surrogate’; how can a type ‘face’ be carried into another, technically different and separate, font?
A Webfont version of Oxygen Regular has been released for use via Google’s Webfont API. It can be used from here http://www.google.com/webfonts/specimen/Oxygen
Work has also started on an italic version of Oxygen (see below).
